In the Whitsunda ys, the birds can be a bit of a problem – the feathered variety, that is. Resorts are warning guests to keep balcony doors shut when not in their room. Apparently, sulfur-crested cockatoos have figured out how to open the mini-bar with their claws, and show no restraint in scoffing all the crackers.

Professional conference organiser ICMS Australasia has marked its 40th birthday with a celebration at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre attended by more than 150 clients and event industry guests. Since opening in 1966, the company has managed and produced more than 1200 congresses and business events, at least 100 of them at the centre. An online service has been launched by MICE- Contact.Com offering companies a quick, direct way to fill job vacancies, as well as offering job- seekers a chance to post their resumes and seek work within the C&I industry internationally.
Bids open
 
Destination bids have opened for the 2008 Meetings & Events Australia conference, already attracting interest from throughout Australia and overseas. The downloadable bid document aims to identify an appropriate venue or series of venues, and collective bids are encouraged from members. Meanwhile, next year's even will be in Hobart in May.
Events seminar
 
A professional development seminar will be hosted on July 10 by the Townsville Enterprise Convention Bureau in conjunction with Meetings & Events Australia. Entitled Marketing Without a Budget, it is designed to help companies be more innovative in the business events market. The half-day seminar will be held at Jupiters Townsville.

Limited spaces are available for the MEA Intensive Training Residential P rogram in Sydney from August 2 to 5, designed for people with less than three years' meetings industry work experience. With an intensive workshop format, the program will have 16 industry high achievers as presenters. Details are available from Fiona Kelly.

August 4 is the deadline for entries to the annual EIBTM WorldWide Technology Watch competition Rewarding excellence and creativity within the meetings and incentives industry, the awards have seven categories - Best Conference, Best Product Launch, Best Incentive Travel Program, Best Event in Spain, Best Destination Marketing Campaign, Best Venue Marketing Campaign and Best Hotel Marketing Campaign. Judging will take place in London in October.
Free trial
 
Event organisers are invited to a free online trial of the latest Regis meetings software. The delegate management program software covers everything from registration, abstracts, hotel and rooming options to sessions and one-to-one meetings. At the Regis website, type in "regis" as the login name and "mission" as the password. Browse through the Index as an event administrator using example pages to configure an event, setting parameters and allocations. Help is available from Simon Young.
